BISHOP'S GARDEN AT THE WASHINGTON NATIONAL CATHEDRAL

In the above photo, near the second car from the right parked next to the wall, is the archway leading into the Bishop's Garden.  We are on the seventh floor where we can see the most incredible views.  The photo only shows half of the garden.  There is a large lawn to the right out of sight.

The roses were a little past their prime but I loved the sunflowers.  They were the star of the show today, not forgetting the Cathedral behind them.

I have a few other photos from here, which I will share later.  However, I wanted to finish this post with a pretty mockingbird atop an old carved stone in the garden.

  4. Wow what gorgeous gardens, a lot of work must go into keeping them as good as this. I also love sunflowers, big smiley faces :-) Thanks once again for a great tour. Diane

  5. Oh - beautiful. I can almost smell it. Oddly enough, you could almost be in Devon, or Kent, or somewhere - apart from the mocking bird! I see you're still building your cathedrals too, just like in the UK..! :-)

    1. Hi Mike, I agree. It reminded me very much of the Cathedral in Exeter. The scaffolding you saw are actually for repairs from a 5.8-magnitude earthquake in our state in 2011. Took everyone by surprise as we don't usually get them here and haven't since. It caused an estimated $32 million in damage to the Cathedral. I didn't realize the extent of the damage until I visited this time and that it was still an ongoing project.

  8. Hello Denise!:) I love the archway to the Bishop's Garden, the font,( at least it looks like a font,) and the profusion of sunflowers in the garden. I see that the beautiful cathedral is being repaired, quite rightly so, to be enjoyed for generations to come. It does look like a peaceful place to spend some time, and how delightful it would be to hear the song of the Mockingbird singing from atop a carved stone in the garden. It was a nice way to end your post.:)

    1. Hello Breathtaking :) So glad you enjoyed this post. The repairs you see are from an earthquake several years ago. It sustained considerable damage apparently. I was surprised to see that this was still ongoing, and did not realize how bad it was.
